Illustrator Shows How Disney Princesses Would Look Like If They Pursued Careers In 2018, And The Result Is Awesome

We’re used to seeing Disney princesses living under the sea or the tyranny of a toxic stepmother. But there are artists who view them differently, by photoshopping them into celebrity pictures for example. This time, we’d like to direct your attention towards the way Matt Burt reimagined them. The North Carolina-based graphic designer has recently created a series featuring Disney princesses as modern career women, and they look absolutely badass!

“I’ve seen numerous reimaginings of the princesses but not one like this — showing them as successful career women,” Burt told Konichiwa Magazine. “To many people, the Disney princesses have become so much more than just characters in movies. I wanted to create these to inspire others in hopes that they can find a career that they love and a career that makes a difference.”

Cinderella became an animal rights activist, Anna and Elsa are now scientists fighting climate change, and Merida is an Olympic athlete. Matt not only masterfully repainted them, but assigned them roles we definitely see them loving. He claims that coming up with all the different jobs was a team effort. “I worked with my coworkers at Simple Thrifty Living to determine what careers the princesses might have based off of their personalities and the events of the movies. We knew we wanted these women to be in strong roles so it was a matter of not only choosing a career that would fit them from a backstory standpoint but also one that would fit the theme of the project.”

“This project took about two and a half months to complete. This was a passions project that I had to juggle with my normal day-to-day responsibilities at work, but I was able to complete roughly one illustration per week.”

“I’m a Disney fan for sure but I wouldn’t say I’m a fanatic. Like most people my age, I grew up watching Disney movies and remember them fondly. As I got older, I grew to appreciate the artwork and work that went into the animation.” Scroll down to meet the bosses you’d like to work for and let us know what you think in the comments.
