Sony announces their initial Tornado Rankings Top 20 for Spring 2015

Spring is in the air and with the new season comes new anime. With many of the new spring anime already premiering last week, Sony has announced the initial Tornado Rankings for this new season, basing it on which anime series were recorded using the Sony Torne app or device for PC, PS Vita, PS3 and PS4.

The Torne device is used to record TV shows by using a PC, PS Vita, PS3 or a PS4, and Sony records which shows were recorded the most using their device. This is also a good way to gauge which anime are doing well when new seasons begin. But do take note that recording anime through Torne is just one of the methods in watching anime in Japan, as others include watching it online via Niconico, recording it with a normal VCR, or just watching it on TV when it actually airs. Here are their findings:

20) Nisekoi

19) Show By Rock

18) My Love Story (Oremonogatari)

17) Triage X

16) Wish Upon the Pleiades

15) Knights of Sidonia: Battle for Planet Nine

14) My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU. Too

13) The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan

12) Plastic Memories

11) Sound Euphonium

10) Gunslinger Stratos

9) Re-Kan!

8) Is it Wrong to Pick-up Girls in a Dungeon?

7) Blood Blockade Battlefront

6) Seraph of the End

5) Food Wars: Shokugeki no Souma

4) Fate/ Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works part 2

3) Punch Line

2) Ghost in the Shell ARISE ALTERNATIVE ARCHITECTURE

1) The Heroic Legend of Arslan

Arslan Senki, one of the most hyped anime coming into April, is no surprise to take the #1 spot as it shows its pedigree just by being illustrated by Full Metal Alchemist and Silver Spoon manga creator, Hiromu Arakawa.

The Sony Tornado rankings however show several upsets with favorites Nisekoi, My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU. Too, and The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan, not even making it to the Top 10 with series like Re-Kan! and Punch Line making several huge upsets. Heck, Punch Line pulled a huge one by taking 3rd place and beating Fate/ Stay Night and Food Wars: Shokugeki no Souma. It even beat out the new darling of this season, Is it Wrong to Pick-up Girls in a Dungeon?, which only took 8th place despite all the fanfare its resident short-stack goddess is receiving as of late, but then again, some people might rather watch these series as they air on TV rather than recording them with Torne.
