When he was a child, Amakawa Haruto made a promise to his childhood friend to reunite. However, he could never fulfill that promise both because she had disappeared and because he was killed in a bus accident. Now, his memories awaken in a young orphan named Rio who seeks revenge for his mother that was brutally murdered in front of him. Confused about these memories of Haruto’s life, Rio ends up saving the kidnapped young princess and awakening a special power in the process. As reward for his heroism, he is granted a scholarship to the Royal Academy.
Stuffed to the bursting full of waifus, this series definitely appeals to the people they keep making isekai anime for. If you are looking for more anime series like Spirit Chronicles, then head on down below.
For Fans of Revenge
The Rising of the Shield Hero
The stories tell of four heroes summoned from another world – the sword, spear, bow, and shield heroes who will prevent calamity. With darkness bearing down on them, the Kingdom of Melromarc summons these heroes from modern day Japan. For otaku Naofumi Iwatani, unfortunately he is labeled the shield hero, the weakest of the group. Worse yet, betrayal sees him labeled as a criminal and outcasted. With hatred and vengeance consuming him, he sets forth to grow strong.
While Rio wants revenge in a different way than Naofumi, what the series has most in common is painting everyone outside of the main character and his harem as garbage people. Of course, as the only non-garbage person, the main character is also incredibly strong.
Otaku Hajime Nagumo and several of his classmates are summoned to a fantasy world and tasked with saving mankind. However, while his classmates are gifted with great abilities, Hajime only has transmutation skills that have no real offensive use. He is soon betrayed by a classmate and sent into an abyss filled with monsters. Resolving to not die to the darkness, he struggles to survive and teams up with an imprisoned vampire to return to the world above.
Both series feature very strong main characters that have become jaded and bitter. They also have the same sort of plot line of trying to reunite with a girl they were once friends with, but that isn’t quite the same motivator in Arifureta. Mostly it focuses on his determination to go home.
Redo of Healer
As a boy, Keyaru awakened the power of a Hero. His specialty was healing. However, by using these powers, he experienced the trauma of the injured person as well. It eventually drove him insane, but he was forced to use his powers anyway. After enduring torture and abuse by his fellow heroes for years, Keyaru formed a plan to get his revenge. He was able to turn back time and restart his life with all his previous memories. Thus his vengeance began.
Did you enjoy how many of the people in Spirit Chronicles were absolute trash human beings? Would you like the main character’s revenge to be vastly more extreme and pornographic? Redo of Healer has the same themes of vengeance and has a strong main character, but yeah, it way more violent and sexual, which may be a deterrent to some.
For Fans of Jaded, Strong Protagonists
I’m Standing on a Million Lives
Bored with the world that surrounds him, loner Yotsuya Yusuke is one day transported to a new world with two girls from his class. There he finds out that they have been playing a game with ten increasingly difficult rounds. After beating each round, they get to pose a question to the game master before heading back home. On this, the third round, Yusuke finds himself excited for the first time in a long time, only for his battle class to be rolled as a weak farmer. Together with his teammates, they struggle to survive and move forward or face certain death.
If you enjoyed how overall cold the main character is, Yotsuya is much the same. However, unlike Rio once he merges with Haruto, Yotsuya isn’t quite as powerful at first, but he’ll step on anyone to get there.
The Misfit of Demon King Academy
After countless wars, Demon Lord Anos Voldigoad decided he would reincarnate into the future. However, 2,000 years later, he has found that his descendants have become too used to peace and their magical powers weakened because of it. Reincarnated with his full strength, the sheer magical power of Anos makes him a misfit at the Demon King Academy charged with educating the next generation in waning magical prowess.
While this is fantasy, it isn’t really isekai fantasy. Like in Spirit Chronicles, The Misfit of Demon King Academy features a main character that is jaded, very powerful, and is constantly challenged by garbage human beings. Of course, this power attracts a harem, though it is more of a manageable size in The Misfit of Demon King Academy.
A young priestess fresh out of the temple is excited to start her life as an adventurer. On her first day, she joins an adventuring party to go slay some goblins. However, like so many young adventure parties before them, they underestimate the goblins. It ends with two dead, one viciously raped, and the priestess saved from fate by a man whose only mission in life is to slay all the goblins.
The protagonists in both series are largely motivated by revenge. Without even trying, their strength gathers them a harem of ladies that love them. However, all they see is the next step forward.
For Fans of Large Waifu Harems
After being chased out of his NEET nest, a man instinctively saves some teens from an oncoming car and is killed. He is reborn as Rudeus Greyrat, a baby and new firstborn son of a local knight. Finding he has great potential for magic, Rudy vows to make the most of his new life even if he is still a perverted otaku on the inside.
While both shows are isekai, the biggest similarity is the fact that you can be introduced to any girl, and you can rest assured that she will eventually love the main character. Both main characters are very powerful, but in Jobless Reincarnation, Rudeus is very much a garbage lolicon.
The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter
Noir is the son of a minor noble. He was going to work as a librarian until the son of a higher rank noble took the position. He does have one special advantage – the use of an ability to consult a great sage. However, using it gives him terrible headaches. Discovering a way to lightly calm the headache, he consults the sage on how to move forward. The sage guides him to a secret dungeon where he meets a trapped powerful adventurer. She grants him her powers so that he can gain power and admission to a great adventurer academy.
Both shows kind of run on the generic side, but most people probably watch them for the harems and the power fantasy that comes from the overpowered main character. The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter leans a bit on the lewd side sometimes, but it has its solid moments of action.
The 8th Son? Are You Kidding Me?
One day, 25-year-old Shingo Ichinomiya goes to sleep and wakes up a 6-year-old in a medieval noble family. Unfortunately, he soon comes to learn that his noble family is not only quite poor, but he is actually the 8th son and looking at virtually no inheritance. He is, however, talented at magic and decides to work to bring prosperity to his family.
Both series feature characters sent to another world as destitute children, following them as they grow in size, power, and harem. Of course, The 8th Son moves a bit faster in that regard and has a more laid-back, non-revenge driven plot.
